Committee works to fine tune centennial celebration plans


LINGLE – With a little more than two months until Lingle’s centennial celebration – beginning Wednesday, July 11 and running through Sunday, July 15 – planning is well underway.

The Town of Lingle 100th Anniversary Celebration Community Planning Committee met Wednesday evening to fine tune plans for the plethora of events scheduled for mid-July.

As of this week, the tentative schedule is as follows:

The multi-day celebration will begin July 11 with a kick-off barbecue at Whipple Park at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 12, attendees can enjoy a movie on the projector at 8 p.m. at Whipple Park. The Lingle Volunteer Fire Department will host a barbecue hamburger feed at 6 p.m. Friday. Saturday begins with a car show at 500 Main St. at 9 a.m., followed by a parade at 10:30 a.m.

The Town of Lingle gun raffle is 2 p.m. at Whipple Park on Saturday, held in conjunction with a commemorative belt buckle auction. The Goshen County Task Force on Family Violence and Sexual Assault will raffle off a 2002 Ford Thunderbird convertible with 27,000 miles at 2:30 p.m. Visit the GCTF office at 1933 Main St. in Torrington to purchase tickets.

Saturday will also consist of several park activities, including food and vendors, kid games, and volleyball and horseshoe
tournaments.

The events culminate in a street dance Saturday evening, featuring Casey Jones from 8 to 11 p.m.

In addition, the history of Lingle will be available for viewing via a slideshow with a location to be determined. A historical display will also be set up in the basement of the Lingle Presbyterian Church.

Attendees can swim free in Lingle Pool throughout the event – from Wednesday
to Saturday.

Times, events and activities are subject to change as planning continues.

Residents interested in participating in the parade – no entry fee – can contact Paula Newcomb at (307) 241-0069. Parade floats will set up at the school and go south on Leiter, then turn on 2nd Street, head down Main Street and up to North Hills Baptist Church, where floats will disassemble.
