EWC Lancers wrap up at CNFR

CASPER – Trevor Schnaufer and Bryer Wadhams posted the best finish among the Eastern Wyoming College Lancers at the College National Finals Rodeo that was run throughout last week, taking 20th in team roping.
The duo recorded a time of 20.0 seconds in the first round, before recording a no time in the second round. In the third round, they posted a time of 5.0 seconds, which was second best in the round. Despite such a successful third go, the Lancers missed the short round, finishing 20th.
“Bryer Wadhams and Trevor Schnaufer made a great run on Friday night to finish second,” EWC rodeo coach Jake Clark said. “It was really nice to see them end their year like that.”
Logan Milligan and Coley Nicholls were not far behind their Lancer teammates in the team roping standings, finishing 23rd. In the first round, they finished in 21.6 seconds, followed by 6.8 seconds in the second go. They were unable to record a time in the third round, missing the final round, finishing the week with 28.4 seconds on two head.
EWC’s Braden Pirrung and his teammate, Gillette College’s J.D. Kirwan, got off to a good start, posting the fourth-best time in the first round (6.5 seconds). They struck out the next two rounds, recording a no time in both rounds.
“I was proud of my freshman Braden Pirrung taking fourth in that first round,” Clark said.
Lingle-Fort Laramie’s Wyatt Hageman did represent Goshen County in the short go in saddle bronc riding. The current University of Wyoming Cowboy had a no score in the first round, but followed that up with a 71 and 69.5. He went on to compete in the short go, coming up with a no score, putting him 13th in the standings.
Four out of the five Lancers that competed in Casper last week will be returning to compete for EWC next year. Clark said he is looking forward to the team that will don the Lancer vest starting in the fall, led by his four returning CNFR contestants.
“Every student I’ve had make the finals really wants to get back, but nothing is a given,” Clark said.
