TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancers defended their home floor Friday against Miles Community College, who joined the Region IX North this season.
The Lady Lancers started off the winning with a score of 25-16 in the first set, before winning the second 25-0. They closed the door on the visitors with a 25-18 win in the third set.
Kylie Tresch had a big day at the service line, pacing EWC with four aces, followed closely by Lissette Lefforge, who had three on the night. Tresch also led the team in assists, with 19, while contributing seven digs. Alex Simmerman was second in assists, with eight.
At the net, Lefforge led the way with nine kills, followed by Dawson Sharman, who accounted for eight. Kodi Edwards topped the chart in blocks with two, with Lefforge, Shaniah Freeseman, Giovanna Jordao and Katie Strohschein each kicking in one.
In the back line, Helena Khouri accounted for 14 digs to lead the Lady Lancers, while Precious Williams added eight.
Northwest 3, EWC 0
Against the Trappers Saturday, the Lady Lancers let several leads slip away as they were swept at home.
After scoring the first point, EWC’s only lead of the first set came at 7-6. Northwest then began pulling away, growing their lead to 14-9, forcing a Lady Lancer timeout. After the break, EWC failed to stop the bleeding, with their deficit growing. The home team went on to lose 25-16.
EWC got off to a better start in the second set, getting out to a 9-6 lead, which they grew to four points twice. With the score at 14-10, the visitors called a timeout and began chipping away at the Lady Lancer lead, scoring three in a row and then tying things up at 17. After trading several points, EWC was up 23-22 before the Trappers rattled off three-straight to win 25-23.
The Lady Lancers put the second set behind them and again took a lead early (7-4), before Northwest knotted the score at eight. Down 13-11, EWC scored 10 points in a row, forming a 21-13 lead. The two teams traded points to put the score at 22-14 before Northwest went on a run of their own, sealing the set and match win with 11 points in a row to win 25-22.
Tresch accounted for the only two aces for EWC, while racking up nine assists and eight digs. Simmerman also added nine assists. Khouri again led the team in digs, with 15.
The killing responsibility was evenly distributed, with Sharman, Williams and Jordao each kicking in six. Edwards, Lefforge and Freeseman had a block apiece in the loss.
At the end of the weekend, EWC sits at 4-21, with a 2-11 record in the region and a 2-5 record in the division. The Lady Lancers have two divisional matchups on the road this week, playing Central Wyoming College on Friday at 7 p.m. and Western Wyoming Community College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
